As a first-generation college student, stepping onto that plane wasn’t just for me—it was for my family and every dream they’d worked hard to help me achieve. This journey to South Korea represented something much bigger than myself, and I couldn’t wait to discover what this new chapter held.

Landing in South Korea, I felt like I had entered a new world. The city was vibrant and loud, something I was not used to. I landed at a pretty late hour, but the streets were still filled with people going about their day. I had heard about Seoul’s nightlife but seeing it firsthand was something I wasn’t prepared for. The mix of sights, sounds, and smells was overwhelming yet exciting.

Life in Korea felt very different from home. It seemed to move faster, and the city’s reliable public transportation made exploring so easy. Whether I was hopping on a subway or catching a bus, I never had to worry about getting around, which is something I’ll really miss. Each day gave me the chance to experience something new—from visiting historical sites to wandering the streets of Seoul, I felt like there was always something waiting to be explored.

Yonsei University also played a significant role in making this experience memorable. The school spirit was unlike anything I had ever seen. From vibrant festivals to school-wide events, Yonsei offered countless opportunities to immerse myself in campus life. My favorite event was the Yon-Ko Games, a two-day sports rivalry against Korea University. The excitement and energy from the students during these games was unforgettable.

After these past couple of months in South Korea, I feel like I have been able to enjoy it to the fullest. Looking back on it I was able to meet many like-minded people from all over the world who are now many of my best friends. This was a dream come true and cannot have been happier than ever. If there is ever an opportunity for you to study abroad, I encourage you to take it as it will change your life.
