The WGS minor is available to students enrolled in degree programs other than those enrolled in the Women's and Gender Studies Major, and is offered through the College of Arts & Letters and administered by GenCen. This interdisciplinary minor provides students with in-depth opportunities to study the intersections of gender with other aspects of identity within their fields of interest, and is an excellent choice for anyone who wishes to study topics related to women and gender.

This minor requires enrollment in core courses WS 201 and WS 202, and nine credits in elective courses from one of four thematic areas (Gender, Race, Ethnicity, and History; Sexuality and Conflict/Violence; Gender and the Arts and Humanities; and Gender Applied: Health, Urban, and Public Policy). Students can pick from over 50 different electives across fields at MSU covering topics in gender, sexuality, and women's issues in health, law, politics, theater, and more.

GenCen is currently accepting applications for the WGS minor. To apply for the WGS minor, fill out the brief qualtrics application linked here: WGS Minor Application

If you have any questions, contact the GenCen Advisor.

With the approval of the department and college that administer the student's degree program, the courses that are used to satisfy the requirements for the minor may also be used to satisfy the requirements for their bachelor's degree.
