GenCen is dedicated to promoting a global perspective on sex, gender, and sexuality that values critical thinking, diversity, inclusiveness, and equality. We support our faculty, students, and staff to achieve excellence in scholarship, to engage in learning opportunities that build global competence, and that mobilize diversity to make the world a more just place.
As we look to the future, we are poised to do so much more. With additional funding, your support can accelerate our effectiveness on a global front, and help GenCen and the university play an important role in advancing gender and sexualities scholarship in Michigan and around the world.
This fund was launched as part of Give Green Day 2018. MSU students are seeking opportunities to use their classroom learning to solve real-world problems. Local organizations doing work on gender and sexual orientation equality need to collect and analyze data to solve problems, but do not always have the time and expertise to devote to applied research. Through the Community Research Scholarship Fund, the GenCen will provide scholarship support for students to do engaged research with community organizations in order to meet the needs of students and the community. This scholarship fund will support undergraduate students working with community organizations on collaborative research projects to solve real‒world problems in the community. These research projects may include issues related to gender equity in the workplace, gender dynamics in schools, and gender‒based violence.
Providing scholarships will make these research collaborations more accessible to students by providing financial support that few community‒based organizations are able to provide. The fund will enrich the student experience through experiential learning, the development of critical problem‒solving skills to address the challenges facing society today, and by providing research resources to community partners.

This fund honors three generations of Abbott & Haskin women—Elizabeth A. Abbott, Ruth Abbott Haskin, and Susan M. Haskin—women whose family connections to Michigan State University are traceable to the first few decades of the Institution's founding. This fund provides scholarship funds for undergraduate students enrolled in a Women's and Gender Studies Education Abroad program every other year. In alternating years, the endowment funds a visiting lecturer/scholar.
