So many cultures in a small radius

Coming from a small town where we don’t get these opportunities very often, I felt incredibly grateful not only to afford the program but also to gain the exposure and travel experiences I did during the month I was there.

It was truly one of the best things I have ever done, and I am so excited at the possibility of going back in the future.

Before leaving I was nervous about traveling by myself and not knowing anyone. However, through this program, I met some amazing MSU students as well as students from all over the world. Coming from a small town where we don’t get these opportunities very often, I felt incredibly grateful not only to afford the program but also to gain the exposure and travel experiences I did during the month I was there.

Another meaningful connection I made while studying abroad was my Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) endorsement. Being in an environment where not everyone spoke English gave me the chance to expose myself to real world experiences I will be encountering with my own students in the near future. This was valuable for both my personal and professional growth.

Beyond academics I also learned more about Greek culture and one of my favorite parts about the entire program was Greek food. I found it fascinating how many cultures can vary and how there are so many cultures within such a small radius. I found it very interesting how different islands had different traditions and very different lives.

Going into this program I was thinking that I would be exploring by myself but once I got there all of the students were so welcoming and they shared their own cultures with us. They told us the best islands to go to, the best restaurants, and the best parts of town. My experience would not have been the same without them.

I believe that my experience is much like many other students who also went or will go to ACG. It is a program that allows you to flourish not only in your world view but also in academics as well. I would absolutely encourage other students to participate in this great program!
