This presentation utilizes the ongoing debate over whether or not rape jokes are appropriate to explore the foundations of rape culture in a meaningful and accessible way. The Canary in the Coal Mine will highlight what factors support sexual violence within popular and military cultures, drawing on research from the fields of moral development education, bystander intervention, and sexual violence prevention education.
There will be two presentations of The Canary in the Coal Mine, both in room 1300 of the FRIB building. Both presentation will have ASL interpreters present.

COGS and MSU's Prevention, Outreach, and Education (POE) Department have teamed up to bring you this dynamic workshop during It's On Us Week of Action. In this session, we will discuss how you can be a supportive person to an individual who is a survivor of sexual assault or relationship violence. We will delve into ways that you can be supportive as a friend, as a colleague, and as a mandatory reporter (for those of you that are required). Lunch will be provided. We hope you will join us for this crucial conversation!
