We use this fund to provide a range of support for our faculty and students. It includes scholarship funds for our Community Engaged Research Internships, which provide scholarships for students doing research internships with local community partners. It also provides other scholarships that have become critical for ensuring that our students are able to continue their studies during difficult times.
If you would like to provide a gift for a specific purpose, please contact the GenCen Directors at to discuss how you would like your gift spent.
This fund is our primary endowment that provides sustained support for the GenCen. We have used these funds for our paper and activism awards, education abroad scholarships, and for large events such as the “Gender, Women’s Suffrage, and Political Power: Past, Present, and Future” conference. A gift to our WID endowment is not immediately spendable, but the interest will provide continual support for GenCen activities.
This fund honors three generations of Abbott & Haskin women—Elizabeth A. Abbott, Ruth Abbott Haskin, and Susan M. Haskin—women whose family connections to Michigan State University are traceable to the first few decades of the Institution's founding. This fund provides scholarship funds for undergraduate students enrolled in a Women's and Gender Studies Education Abroad program every other year. In alternating years, the endowment funds a visiting lecturer/scholar.
GenCen is dedicated to promoting a global perspective on sex, gender, and sexuality that values critical thinking, diversity, inclusiveness, and equality. We support our faculty, students, and staff to achieve excellence in scholarship, to engage in learning opportunities that build global competence, and that mobilize diversity to make the world a more just place.
As we look to the future, we are poised to do so much more. With additional funding, your support can accelerate our effectiveness on a global front, and help GenCen and the university play an important role in advancing gender and sexualities scholarship in Michigan and around the world.
We want to thank all of our supporters, who gave over $25,000 to support the GenCen's work in gender and sexuality scholarship and teaching. Here, former Co-Director Dr. Stephanie Nawyn thanks the GenCen supporters who contributed to Give Green Day 2021, and talks about how those gifts are going to make an impact.
