MSU's undergraduate adviser Sara Bijani was quoted in an article in The Observer highlighting pictures from the history of the women's movement in the United States.

In the article she remarked that "it's really important to recognize all of the real policy changes that the feminist movement has made, and to use those as inspiration to push for better policy."

The Fall 2017 MSU It's On Us Week of Action begins today!
Starting with a mind-relaxing yoga session on Monday night (Oct. 23rd), all the way to a Student Leadership Institute event on Friday (Oct. 27th), which focuses on everyday actions that student leaders can act on in regard to bystander intervention. The keynote speaker for the week is Alan Berkowitz, an internationally recognized expert on bystander intervention.

Mayors Virg Bernero of Lansing and Mark Meadows of East Lansing will host the 11th Annual Mayors' Ramadan Unity Dinner - "United in Strength - Solidarity Against Hunger" on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., at the Lansing Center in downtown Lansing.
The deadline for purchasing tickets for this event is Friday, July 7, 2017. Prices for tickets are:
Students - $15
Individual - $25
Family - $80 per family of 4

Dr. Ryu developed an idea to help students learn classical Japanese. Instead of simply memorizing conjugation tables and charts, she wanted her students to sharpen their ability to recognize grammatical patterns by playing an engaging game. She credits the Delia Koo Endowment award for helping her experiments get started and creating more opportunities for her to apply for other grants.

GenCen is proud to see WGS major and MasterCard Scholar Naomi Kamitha featured in the 2017 CAL Dean's Report! Naomi has traveled thousands of miles from home to come to MSU where she is an Honors College student majoring in Women's & Gender Studies in the hopes of one day returning to her home continent to advocate for gender-inclusive policies.

Every month GenCen compiles a range of information to share with our listservs. Called the "GenCen Digest," this document has grown over the years to become so large as to be, well, somewhat indigestible. So we have been working to make the Digest more user-friendly. The May Digest is much shorter than usual, and we hope easier to navigate. Starting Fall 2017, we anticipate replacing the Digest with something even more user-friendly.

GenCen is pleased to be a drop-off location for the statewide Michigan Health & Hygiene Donation Drive for the Homeless, occurring Monday, April 24th through Friday, May 5th.

Donations will be accepted during our office hours, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm (with the possibility that we will be closed from 12-1pm for lunch). MSU's Sexual Assault Program (Room 14 Student Services Building) is also participating as a drop-off location.

MSU Sexual Assault Program is requesting applications for its summer volunteer training sessions. You do NOT need to be affiliated with MSU to volunteer, and if you're interested in learning more there is an information session on Wednesday, May 10 at 5pm in Room 6 Student Services Bldg. Applications are due Friday, May 12.
