GenCen is partnering with WKAR and the Women's Resource Center for the first in a series of film screenings this fall.
On September 27 at 7:00pm, there will be a screening of “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.” Following the screening, there will be a moderated community discussion with GenCen's Assistant Director Amy Jamison as one of the panelists.
International Studies and Programs (ISP), in partnership with the Michigan State University Alumni Association, have opened the call for entries to the 2012 international photo competition, Global Focus. submissions are due Friday, October 5, 2012.
The annual One Book, One Community program, co-sponsored by the City of East Lansing and Michigan State University, encourages the city-university community to read the same book and come together to discuss it in a variety of settings. The book is also an assigned reading for all incoming Michigan State University freshmen. Pick up a copy of this year's book and turn the pages with the community.

The African Union (AU) has established a High Level Panel on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). The panel will advise the AU on reviewing Africa’s Science and Technology Consolidated Plan of Action (CPA) which was adopted by African ministers responsible for science and technology in 2005 and endorsed by Heads of State and Government in 2006 in order to move the continent from resource-based economies into innovation-led, knowledge-based economies.
Michigan State University will use a $7.3 million federal grant to cultivate the next generation of agricultural scientists in Africa and Asia, in hopes of improving food security and nutrition there.
Nineteen Michigan State University students have been awarded Fulbright scholarships for the 2012-2013 academic year. Two other candidates have been named as alternates in the competitions.
This year Michigan State University has awarded 16 Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships for the summer of 2012 to encourage the study of critical and less commonly taught foreign languages in combination with area studies, international studies or international aspects of professional. These fellowships are funded with grants from the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI of the Higher Education Act.
A team of researchers from MSU was recently awarded a grant from the NSF Dynamics of Coupled Natural and Human Systems program to study the impact of a new road connecting Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, with Pearl Lagoon, a previously remote area of the country. The study will monitor the flow of people, technology and markets, along with the resulting impacts on the natural systems in which the people reside.

GPID Working Papers are article-length manuscripts (9,000-word maximum) by scholars from a broad range of disciplines that contribute new understandings of women's and men's roles and gender relations amidst economic, social, and political change.

The GPID Resource Bulletin recently received review copies of a number of titles, and is looking for interested parties to review these titles for the Bulletin. Chosen reviewers will be able to keep a copy of the title they review, and their review will be published with authorial credit in an edition of the Bulletin, published three times a year.

In compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and the University's efforts to provide a supportive environment for new mothers returning to work, school or campus, a new website has been created that lists all campus rooms that have been made available for the use of nursing mothers.
