Strategic Partnership Funding Opportunities
The Provost and the Dean of ISP have made available funds to develop international strategic partnerships with particular universities and institutions of higher education and research abroad, focused on themes in which a critical mass of MSU faculty are engaged. These partnerships will generally involve multiple departments and/or colleges at MSU. Collaborations that link Arts and Letters or Social Science faculty to the STEM and health disciplines are especially encouraged. These partnerships may involve collaborative research, regular exchange of faculty and students, co-developed distance learning courses, co-sponsored dual degree or sandwich programs, and other forms of cooperation that build the institutional partnership.
Collaborative research is essential to these partnerships, and we ask faculty who participate to build broader and deeper multidisciplinary cooperation with the partner institutions that extends beyond their own research priorities.
Strategic Partnership funds will provide partial support of travel costs to develop strategic partnerships, both for MSU faculty and their partners coming from abroad. The applicant faculty member's college, department, and other institutes will be expected to share the costs of this travel to ensure that the commitment to long-term partnering is shared by departments and colleges.
Outcomes from these travel awards should include one of the following:
1) Development or submission of a collaborative proposal (including MSU and partner institution faculty) for external funding
2) Development of new collaborative curricular programs (degree programs, courses, faculty exchanges)
Proposals should not exceed five pages and should include:
1. A narrative stating:
- What activities are proposed for this trip?
- What outcomes are expected from these activities and this trip?
- What are the long-term goals of this partnership and who will be involved?
- How has this institution been chosen as a strategic MSU partner abroad?
- What MSU faculty are involved in the project and from which disciplines?
- With which department and/or college at the host university will you collaborate?
- If project participants previously have engaged in collaborative work with colleagues there, what was the nature and duration of that collaboration?
3. A proposed budget.
For your information, the MSU criteria that will be used to evaluate the outcomes of these funds will include the number and quality of: (1) collaborative research grant applications submitted and awarded; (2) collaborative research publications completed; (3) faculty exchanged, through post-doctoral and visiting scholar appointments; and (4) curricular innovations (collaborative courses, dual certificate or degree programs, sandwich degrees, study abroad and internship programs, etc.)

International Development Research Initiation Grants (IDRIG)
Support for faculty to initiate research
This grant is Title VI funded and is administered through CASID/GenCen. International Development Research Initiation Grants provide support for innovative research proposals from faculty which promote new knowledge about international development and/or gender relations. Foreign travel and per diem support of up to $2,000 will be awarded to competitive applications.

CASID/GenCen Awards for Curriculum Development
For Faculty developing a specific course
This grant is Title VI funded by CASID and GenCen. Several annual awards of $3,000 of summer salary support will be awarded to faculty members developing new undergraduate and graduate courses related to international development or gender, development, and globalization or $1,500 to faculty developing new course modules on these topics for inclusion in priority existing courses. Priority is given to course modules or courses related to Global Food, Agriculture, and Environment; Livelihood Strategies, Economics, and Governance; Education and Health Disparities; Violence, Conflict and Conflict Resolution; Identities and Representations the graduate specialization in International Development; and/or the graduate specialization in Gender, Justice, and Environmental Change.

Conference Awards
Limited funds (up to $400) are occasionally made available for faculty presenting research at conferences to cover travel and incidental expenses (excluding international travel). The research presented must be relevant to the GenCen's stated purpose (on topics related to international development and/or gender relations). You must show at least 20% match from your department or college.
