Co-Director of International Research and Engagement Announced

International Studies and Programs has named Wenda Bauchspies as co-director for international research and engagement for the Center for Gender in Global Context (GenCen), effective January 1, 2018.

 In this role, Bauchspies will be responsible for providing intellectual and programmatic leadership in the area of research and engagement related to international gender studies while working collaboratively with faculty and other key university stakeholders.

Dr. Bauchspies is an interdisciplinary and international social scientist whose expertise lies in the integration of gender, social justice, and culture with agricultural research and technological adaptation. Focusing on West Africa, her interdisciplinary work has supported the advancement agricultural policies that assist smallholder farmers in the region and addresses the global issue of food security. Bauchspies is currently the program director for Science, Technology & Society and Cultivating Cultures for Ethical STEM at the National Science Foundation (NSF), where she co-administers the infrastructure supporting research and education programs in science, technology, and society. She works with scholars in the field of ethical STEM and facilitates NSF's mission to advance innovative activities in research and education that contribute to the nation's technological strength, security, and welfare. She holds a PhD in science and technology studies from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Established in 2007, GenCen is located in International Studies and Programs (ISP) which serves as a hub for international programming and research on campus. The Center provides gender and women's studies expertise and leadership across MSU's mission of research, teaching, outreach and service. GenCen is headed by co-directors; a search is currently underway to fill the position of co-director for international research and engagement.
